The clock struck midnight not 5 days ago. I was sitting on the couch at a friends house with my wife right next to me. As is customary we started the new year off with a kiss. Nothing new really in that. What was different for me was that I didn’t feel any pressure to come up with a single New Years resolution. I already had a plan that was leading me to having a lot of them for the next year.

After spending several days thinking and coming up with this new plan. I even did a write up for myself discussing all of the items on it. However, I also wanted to make sure I had the thoughts about each one in a place I could refer to again later. Now it sounds like I’m making this a huge undertaking, and that is with good reason. It is a big list of things I want to do. I lot of small items (54 to be exact) leading me to accomplishing 8 larger goals.

X Means What?

Why all these numbers? Well I have a reason for that. Much of what I want to do will be tied to rediscovering my creativity. I went to college of for an art degree, and while there I learned about PHI. Most people know it as the golden proportion. Although we know what PI is better. This is very similar though it doesn’t make a circle like PI does. PHI creates more of a spiral.

The best visual is a daisy. If you have seen them closed and bloomed then you have seen the wonder of a golden ratio. Not every petal of the daisy is on the same level. They layer down towards the stem. Each of those layers has a set number of petals on it. The first layer on has one petal. The next has again only one petal, and slightly offset from the first. They then increase in number slowly so that the flower gets its shape. But by not having them all on the same layer it can close up and protect itself too.

In todays world we refer to this more commonly as a Fibonacci sequence. Where you can easily make a sequence of numbers by adding the two preceding numbers together. If you start like I did with only two different ideas. That would be 1 and 1. So we can start there and show it like 1,1 in the sequence. If you quickly do math you will find the sequence looking like this. 1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34,…. clearly there isn’t a way to easily get to 20 only to 21. But I felt like getting as close to the upcoming year was important.

Having a Plan

So 21 was where I decided to stop. Next I knew that I had the first one for sure being meeting 1 of my health goals. Seeing it like that I used all of the Fibonacci numbers as the beginning of a goal. This meant I would have 8 main goals each having a number in them. Each number leading me to what was needed to complete that goal. It seemed easy enough. Except i knew that they needed to be things that weren’t super easy to complete either. I want to have them help change and get me to a place I want to be.

I’ve tried before to be just a worker and also to work for myself. I accomplished both. Now I know that I need to focus on making me happy and all those other things will come together in the right way. So lets put the list of 8 down so you can see them.

    1 Additional Language Speakable
    1 Weight Goal Achieved
    2 New Skills Learned
    3 Videos Produced
    5 Volunteer Projects
    8 Photo Essays Completed
    13 Books Read
    21 Posts on Blog

Not a bad list at all. A lot of it is directed in ways that I know like the videos and the books. I will talk about each of those as we get to them. Because obviously I have more posts coming throughout the year. I do include the videos in my thoughts of posts and they should explain themselves. So you should get at least 2 a month all year long.

Execution & Reporting

However, I’m not going to leave you in the dark about all of this and where I am at with them. You can see my full list of items by clicking here or on the 21 in 20 link at the top of the page. Because that is what I’m calling this is my 21 in 20 project. I hope it will make me the better person I want to become. I look forward to accomplishing this stuff. It is important to have realistic expectations too and I know that I might not get to all of it. Still the pan is to give it my best go either way. Let me know below what you think. Am I too ambitious or are are you inspired to do the same thing?
